Introducing Materials & Sustainability Research

For many years we have been at the forefront of using new materials, challenging conventional thinking in how we can help business and industry to develop innovative products. Our research investigates the use of different materials to provide cost savings in processes and product design as well as the use of digital technologies. Concerns about the environment and use of natural resources have been embedded in our research for some years. As society changes the way it engages with the environment, we remain committed to pursuing new and innovative ways of using materials in product design.

Driven by a research team which combines both industrial and academic experience, we have a strong track record of delivering conventional and non-conventional solutions. Our experience of collaborating with business and industry provides research & development that gives companies a competitive edge.

Over the years our research expertise has successfully transferred across sectors including aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer electronics, bio medical and leisure. Some areas of particular interest are eco friendly racing using sustainable materials, interior air quality and emissions in vehicles, low cost titanium, metal forming, plastics and mouldings, ceramics additive layer manufacturing and bone tissue engineering.
