THE AIMS
This programme provides a rigorous introduction to the academic disciplines underlying the effective teaching of English to speakers of other languages. Our BEd programme has the following aims:
- To develop your knowledge and critical understanding of theories of applied linguistics and education.
- To develop your specialised knowledge and skills in selected areas of professional practice
- To help you develop a sense of judgement in your future professional life, in ways appropriate to your own professional context, national, cultural and institutional
- To enable you to fulfil your academic potential and plan your own subsequent development
- To provide you with the opportunity to develop an internationalist outlook and develop skills in cross-cultural communication.
THE PROGRAMME
During your Foundation Programme at Ipoh, you followed a variety of courses which laid a strong foundation for the different areas of degree study. You have all successfully graduated from the Foundation Programme and we are confident of your ability to succeed on the BEd
As you know, you will study here at Warwick for the next 3 years, returning to Malaysia for the fourth and final year of the programme.
Your three years at Warwick will involve study of the following modules:

- Sociolinguistics
- Oracy
- Culture and Citizenship
- Second Language Learning Processes
Year 2
- The Learner and Classroom Practices
- Descriptions of English in Use
- Literacy (reading and Writing) in English as a second language
- Content in the Language Classroom
Year 3
- The Design, Development and Evaluation of ELT materials (including multimedia)
- Drama, Film and World Literature in English
- Assessment and Evaluation of Learners and Learning
