The Higher Education Foundation Programme (HEFP)
The Higher Education Foundation Programme (HEFP) is a 9 month, fast-track pre-university academic programme, designed specifically for students who wish to join an undergraduate programmes at the University of Warwick. This programme is co-ordinated by the International Office at the University of Warwick. The programme is taught in two Colleges of Further Edcation in the UK. The colleges that the University of Warwick works closely with are:
- Warwickshire College, Leamington Spa (Law; Science and Engineering; Biomedical Science);
- Stratford-upon-Avon College (Business Studies; Sociology).
Both colleges are recognised as efficient by the British Council for the purposes of delivering English language programmes for international students.
Full details of the programme and how to apply are available from the International Office's HEFP web site.
The Centre for Applied Linguistics is designated by the university to provide English language support for the HEFP programme in a number of different ways:
- The Centre moderates the English course content, its delivery and the assessment of English language across the two institutions which operate the programme.
- A further role of the moderator is to visit the colleges early in the academic year to meet the students themselves, and to provide helpful advice about language learning. Particular emphasis is given to learning strategies and also to the use of references and the avoidance of plagiarism in written work.
- The Centre for Applied Linguistics has designed a website called Learning English on-line at Warwick, written by EAP specialists within the Centre for Applied Linguistics. This site contains vital information and resources that will assist HEFP students in improving their academic English skills. Book recommendations, general advice, tips, suggestions, worked examples and models of effective academic English are all features of this innovative web site.
