    In-sessional Classes

    What are In-sessional classes?

In-sessional classes are additional English language sessions for international students already studying for a degree at the University of Warwick (and their Partners, who can follow a special class). Regular attendance at the classes can strengthen students' academic English language ability (written and spoken), increase confidence in writing assignments (including dissertations) and help to engage more fully in class discussions.

    Who are the classes for?

All registered international students are eligible to attend the classes, subject to availability of places. The writing classes are aimed primarily at students who are asked/required to attend classes by their department. Seminar skills, pronunciation classes and cross-cultural issues sessions are available to all students. Students who already have a stronger level of English, but who wish to brush up their writing skills, may still be able to attend the writing classes, if there are spaces available.

Some departments arrange English classes with us for their own students; enquiries about these should be made directly to the department concerned.

How do I register for a class?

Registration is for existing University of Warwick students only (and their partners, who can follow a special class). Procedures for registration are outlined on the in-sessional home page in the CAL Intranet. As a member of the university, you will need to log in with your username and password to access the site. Attendance at all classes is subject to availability of places.

Where can I get further advice about English classes?

For further details, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions first. Students may also email the In-sessional Administrator with any further questions.

I am an academic tutor at the university. How can you help my students with their English?

Members of staff are welcome to contact us to enquire as to how we might be able to help students within departments. We offer one-to-one surgeries, for those that need them, and we can also organise specialist language support classes for closed groups of students following specific programmes of study. We will be happy to discuss your requirements with you.

SUMMER TERM CLASSES BEGIN ON 23rd APRIL 2012

Welcome to Summer term in-sessional English language classes.

We are arranging dissertation writing sessions, CAE preparation classes for Erasmus students, sessions in presentation practice and pronunciation, and classes for Partners.

We are also offering bookable writing surgeries. Details of how to book surgeries will be available shortly.

Please note that in term 3, there are no on-line pre-registration requirements. If you wish to attend a class, all you need to do is to come along in week beginning 23rd April (week 1 of term), at the day and time specified on the programme. You will then be registered for the class by the tutor, if there is space available, and will then be eligible to attend for the full ten weeks of term.

The full programme of classes is available by following the link to our in-sessional intranet page.

You will need a Warwick IT services username and password to access this site.
