RESEARCH PROFILEMy research interest include, Interactional sociolinguistics, Linguistic ethnography of multilingual settings, (English-)bilingual classroom interaction, Language education policy, Multilingual literacies, Language maintenance & shift, and World Englishes. My research has been primarily macro-ethnographic and micro-ethnographic in nature and has been based in different research sites: in urban and rural settings, in community contexts as well as in schools and higher education. |
BACKGROUNDBefore joining the Center recently, I worked in Brunei Darussalam, Lancaster and York. I did MA (Syntax) and MPhil (Literacy & Language Policy) at Delhi University (India), and PhD (Language Maintenance & Shift among the Panjabi Diaspora, UK) and worked as a Tutor at York University. After that I worked at Lancaster University as Research Assistant on an ESRC funded ethnographic project (on bilingual support policy and classroom interactional practices) in schools situated in minority community contexts. There, I was also a member of the Centre for Language in Social Life. Then, I moved to the York St John University (York) on a full-time academic position as Senior Lecturer. Just before coming to Wrawick, I worked at the University of Brunei Darussalam in Southeast Asia where during the last two and a half years, I was head of the Department of English & Applied Linguistics. |
