RESEARCH PROFILEGerard has published numerous articles in a variety of areas of language and literary studies. His research interests range from literary studies to corpus-based textual analysis, language testing and assessment and all areas of critical theory. He is currently particularly interested in transgender studies/ narratives. |
BACKGROUNDGerard manages the in-sessional English language programme for the Centre. He also lectures in testing and assessment on the MA and BEd programmes, and in English for Specific Purposes across a range of departments. He has taught at the universities of Birmingham (UK) and Nantes (France), as well as for the Open University. He has also worked in private language schools, where he was a Director of Studies, and within the Further Education sector in Coventry. |

Here is a list of the successful MA dissertations I have supervised since I came to Warwick in 1999.
I have successfully supervised several trainees for on-line DELTA programmes in the capacity of regional/local trainer.
RESEARCH NEWS: I recently gave a joint presentation for the PAD research group within the Centre on the use of dexter coder for analysing abstracts and teaching abstract writing in chemistry and life sciences. On 25th February 2012, I gave a paper at the BALEAP PIM at the University of Kent, focusing on tracking EAP students' language learning strategy development.
TEACHING NEWS: I recently led a cross-departmental workshop for the Learning Development Centre on "Enhancing vocal clarity in classroom situations" (23rd May 2012). The session was attended by staff across the university, an involved the development of observation skills and practical approaches to classroom delivery, including drama activities.
