LEAVING LEARNING: RESEARCH EXPLORING WHY YOUNG PEOPLE, HAVING EMBARKED ON A PROGRAMME OF LEARNING, CHOOSE NOT TO CONTINUE ON A LONG-TERM BASIS

This study was based in the Centre for Education and Industry. Julian Stanley, Professor Prue Huddleston and Dr Madeleine Wahlberg undertook the fieldwork with Professor Geoff Lindsay (CEDAR) as a consultant to the project. In addition QUAD research from the University undertook the detailed analysis of data from the Connexions Service. The study addressed the vexed issue of young people who do not participate in education and/or training at age 16-18, an area where the UK has a poor record internationally. The study comprised a detailed literature review and an analysis of data in one area, and was funded by the Learning and Skills Council.
