Transfer to MA Educational Innovation from Warwick PGCE

If you have studied for a PGCE at the University of Warwick, you have the option at the end of your PGCE year of transferring directly onto the MA Educational Innovation. The PGCE courses have been set up to enable you to make this upgrade without having to make and pay for another application to the University, and have the advantage of being able to accredit 90 CATS (60 at M Level and 30 at H Level) for those studying their PGCE in 2012/13 or later.

The MA Educational Innovation upgrade consists of a 30 CATS Foundation Research Methods module in either the Autumn or Summer Term, which is taught online and is made up of two 2,500 word assignments. You will not be charged for the module until you have started your study, in either October or April. In the second year of study you would then complete your Master's dissertation. It is possible to complete the whole MA in one year, although we would advise that this might be an overwhelming task and would urge you to speak to the course leader if you are contemplating this option.

If, after reading the above, you wish to transfer to the MA Educational Innovation at the end of your PGCE year - avoiding the need to re-apply for the course and pay the application fee (£50) - the deadline is 1st July - you firstly need to email educationpostgrad@warwick.ac.uk and let us know of your intention, you then need to inform your PGCE course leader so they are able to facilitate the transfer at the Exam Board for your PGCE. You will then need to enrol on the course during September. We will contact you to ensure you are registered on the module.

If you do not take up the option at the end of your PGCE year, you are still entitled to have 90 CATS accredited as prior learning for the MA Educational Innovation, or 60 CATS for any other MAs offered by the Centre for Education Studies, as long as you apply within five years of graduating from your PGCE. You will however need to apply through the postgraduate admissions portal in this instance, and also contact us at educationpostgrad at warwick dot ac dot uk in order to obtain the accredited prior learning.
