Marco Vivarelli, Ph.D. in Economics and Ph.D. in Science and Technology Policy, is full professor of Economic Policy at the Catholic University of Piacenza; he is Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA, Bonn) and at the Max Planck Institute of Economics in Jena. He is Associate Editor of Small Business Economics.

He is author and editor of various books and his papers in the fields of economics of innovation, industrial organization and development economics have been published in many refereed international journals, including the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Economics Letters, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, the Journal of Economics, the Southern Economic Journal, Research Policy and Applied Economics.

From June 2002 to May 2005 he was in charge of a long-term International Labour Office project devoted to study, through theoretical and empirical contributions as well as country case studies, the impact of globalization – namely increasing trade, FDI and technological transfer - on employment, income distribution and poverty alleviation in developing countries.
