    Dr. Dennis Leech

Dennis Leech is a Reader in Economics at the University of Warwick, an Associate of the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation at Warwick University and a Research Associate of the Centre for the Philosophy of Natural and Social Science at London School of Economics. He is also one of the Directors of the Voting Power and Procedures Project at the CPNSS, LSE. He did his first degree and masters at the University of Manchester and his Ph.D at Warwick. His research has been published in a wide range of academic journals including the Economic Journal, Public Choice, Management Science, Political Studies, Annals of Operations Research, Econometrica and others.

Dennis Leech’s main research interests are in formal analysis of governance, specifically the analysis of power in weighted voting systems – that is, systems in which different voters have different numbers of votes. He has made important contributions to the theory and practice of the measurement of voting power, a field of public choice that embraces social choice and cooperative game theory. He has done applied work on corporate governance looking at shareholder power and control of corporations through voting shares. His most recent work has been on the design of transparent weighted voting systems for international organisations, in particular the European Union Council, the IMF and World Bank, on which he has published seminal journal articles. His computer programs for voting power analysis are available for public use on his web page. See his home page www.warwick.ac.uk/~ecrac.
