The Atlantic Economic Journal has published the research paper of Jia Yi Leong, a recent graduate of the University of Warwick Department of Economics undergraduate programme. She was one of four finalists in an international competition for the Best Undergraduate Paper of 2012.

Her paper, "Price Dispersion in Online Grocery Stores: An Analysis of the UK Market", was published in the January 2013 edition of the journal. In it, Jia Yi found that retailers relied on randomised pricing strategies. "Price is used not as a tool to attract demand, but rather is used to trade-off margins between different products to achieve the profit-maximising objectives of the retailers" she concluded.

In August, her paper was selected as one of the top undergraduate research projects in an annual competition sponsored by EconSources.com and the International Atlantic Economic Society. The four finalists were selected by a panel of nine International judges, who evaluated the papers with names, university and country affiliations removed.

Jia Yi said,"Ultimately, putting together this research paper was a great experience, and being published in the Atlantic Economic Journal is a great honour."

Abhinay Muthoo, Head of the University of Warwick Department of Economics, offered his congratulations to Jia Yi and said, "This accomplishment reflects both her high level of scholarship and her hard work."
