With great sadness, the Department is informed that one of our students, Ming Tsung (Maggie) Cheung, has died following a road traffic accident close to the University campus on Tuesday 21 January.

As Head of the Economics Department, it is with sadness that I have to inform you all that one of our students, Ming Tsung (Maggie) Cheung, has died following a road traffic accident close to the University campus on Tuesday 21 January. Maggie was studying on our Masters of Economics degree programme. Words are inadequate at this tragic moment but I know that I speak for all of us in the Department when I say that our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends. A book of condolence is available for students to contribute to in the Postgraduate Office, S0.91.

Dr Jonathan Cave was Maggie's tutor and has this personal message,

"Maggie greatly impressed me with her clear-sighted enthusiasm and strong academic potential, which she was well on the way to fulfilling. She had a large network of friends, and was looking forward to a productive career with eager anticipation. She will be sorely missed, not least by her instructors and fellow students."

I know that university staff are already in contact with Maggie's closest friends but if any of you would like to speak to someone at this time, the Student Support Services website gives more details about the support that is available or you can contact Student Support on 024 76 575570, ext 75570. Alternatively, if you would like to contact me personally in the first instance then please feel free to do so.

Abhinay Muthoo

Head of Department.
