The Department is delighted to announce that four of our PhD students have been nominated for a 2014 teaching excellence award. The WATEPGR recognises and rewards postgraduate research students who teach or demonstrate that they have had positive impact on the student learning experience.

The PhD students have reflected on their nominations and have said:

  • James Massey “I'd like to thank all those who have given me positive feedback leading to this nomination. It helps enormously to have enthusiastic students who engage with my seminars.”
  • Chara Tzanetaki "This nomination is for me the culmination of a very exciting teaching year! Our first year undergraduates are bright, enthusiastic young people, full of energy, creativity and the beginnings of sound economic thinking."
  • Raghul Venkatesh "I am excited to be nominated for the teaching excellence award this year. This is my first, and I feel elated to be recognised for my teaching efforts."
  • Boromeus Wanengkirtyo “It is wonderful to be nominated for a WATEPGR award by students. It will be a fantastic inspiration to further improve future teaching.”

Head of Department, Professor Abhinay Muthoo congratulated the students on their nominations and said, "We are proud of our graduate teaching assistants in Economics and I am really delighted that four of our students have been nominated for a Teaching Excellence Award. This recognises the fantastic contribution they make to the wider work of the Department."

All WATEPGR nominations will now be sent to a judging panel where 10 finalists will be selected. The panel will then select five winners, each receiving £500, and five commendees, each receiving £200.
