HM Treasury Permanent Secretary engages with students in first Warwick Policy Lab lecture

The first Warwick Policy Lab lecture took place this week, with Sir Nicholas MacPherson visiting campus to discuss the Global Economic and Financial Crisis.

Sir Nicholas has been Permanent Secretary to the HM Treasury since 2005 and managed the Department through the financial and wider economic crisis. He delivered a talk entitled 'The Global Economic & Financial Crisis: what we have learnt 7 years on”.

In front of a packed lecture theatre in Warwick Arts Centre, Sir Nicholas discussed the lessons learnt from the financial crisis and he also answered a range of questions put to him from students and staff, including on home ownership, student fees, the NHS and productivity.

Introducing the lecture series, Siobhan Benita said:

“This Series will bring into the University some fantastic leaders and policy-makers; people who are dealing with very challenging and topical issues.

The lectures will help students and staff from across the University to think about the application of their learning and research to important and relevant policy issues.”
