Barry Eichengreen: Public Lecture

Hall of Mirrors: The Great Depression, the Great Recession, and the Uses – and Misuses – of History

Professor Barry Eichengreen delivers an engaging public lecture

Professor Barry Eichengreen, University of Calfornia, Berkeley and University of Cambridge, visited CAGE on Monday 26 January and gave an engaging talk on the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Great Recession of 2008.

During the lecture, entitled "Hall of Mirrors", Professor Eichengreen discussed how distilled wisdom about the Great Depression of the 1930s informed - and misinformed - the policy response to the Great Recession of 2008-9. He also explained how, conversely, the experience of the Great Depression will fundamentally reshape how we think about the Great Depression.

The talk was based on Professor Eichengreen's new book, "Hall of Mirrors: The Great Depression, The Great Recession, and the Uses - and Misuses - of History" (Oxford University Press).

Professor Eichengreen's lecture attracted a full audience of students, staff and academics. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A and a book signing.
