    Welcome to the Department of Politics and International Studies. PAIS is one of the largest and most highly-ranked Politics departments in the UK and internationally. We consistently appear in the top 10 of every ranking system produced by the UK government and media organisations for evaluating teaching and research.

    Overall, PAIS is a diverse, successful, and dynamic community of students and researchers situated in one of the UK’s leading Universities.

    Academic excellence

    PAIS attracts the highest quality students from over 50 countries worldwide onto 3 core and several joint Undergraduate programmes, 10 Masters programmes, and a wide range of PhD topics. PAIS students graduate with very good career prospects in a variety of fields including government, law, business, international organisations, and the media.

    Excellence in research

    PAIS boasts over 40 academic staff, all of whom are research-active and represent a broad spectrum of specialties within Politics and International Studies. We also have a growing community of postdoctoral research fellows at the cutting edge of research, and PAIS is the home of several major research projects and centres including CSGR and the European Commission-funded GR:EEN Project.

    GARNET

    GARNET is a Network of Excellence on Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation: The Role of the EU funded under the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme and comprising 42 leading research centres and universities. It is coordinated by the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation at the University of Warwick.

    GARNET’s aim is to develop a world-class multi-disciplinary network of scientific excellence of researchers, analysts and practitioners with expertise in key issues and themes in global and regional governance. Particular focus is placed on: (i) those elements of the global regulatory framework (trade, finance, security) that (to a greater or lesser extent) structure the modern world system and (ii) an analysis of Europe’ role within that framework.
