Ilias holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Piraeus (Greece), an MA in Industrial Relations from Warwick Business School, and a PhD in economics from the University of Warwick. Prior to his appointment in IER, Ilias has been involved in various research and teaching activities in Greece. In 2002-2003, Ilias was employed in the Greek Parliament as a researcher appointed to an MP. Ilias has also worked for the Research Centre of the University of Piraeus, the Greek Centre of Educational Research, and the Labour Institute (INE) of the Greek General Confederation of Labour (GSEE), and he has taught at the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus. Within the Institute for Employment Research, Ilias has been involved in numerous projects including CEDEFOP' s Pan-European forecasts and FUTURETRACK.
PhD thesis:
In his doctoral thesis, Ilias explored various aspects of the Greek labour market, including wage flexibility, the incidences of unemployment and self-employment, and the labour market of graduates. In addition, he assessed how the available data allow the development of a labour market information system than can be applied in the case of Greece regarding projections of occupations and qualifications. Ilias thesis was supervised by Robert Lindley and Rob Wilson, and examined by Gerry Hughes and Hans Heijke.

Ilias’ research interests are in the area of labour economics, economics of education, and forecasting occupations and qualifications.
