This project aimed to provide robust and reliable information on, and gave recommendations regarding, the development of European Social Fund (ESF) provision in the East Midlands for those out of work. It examined recent changes in unemployment trends, and made recommendations on how ESF provision needs to develop to meet these changes; explored how current ESF projects delivering provision to the unemployed are being tailored to meet the needs of different groups of unemployed people; and identified which aspects of provision are needed by all those disadvantaged in the labour market, and how provision can best provide longer-term career prospects. IFF lead the project, with IER contributing to the analysis of unemployment data, mapping of travel to learn, literature review of future skills needs, the final report and dissemination.
