This was a small study for Northern Way as part of a programme of research managed by the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS). The output from the study was a paper on Labour Markets presented at a Symposium attended by academics and European, national and regional policymakers in Spring 2010. The programme of research brings together leading academics and policy thinkers in the field of urban and regional development and associated disciplines to consider the developmental issues facing regions like the North of England in the coming years. The focus is on
underlying structural economic issues, relevant beyond the current recession, and into the longer-term. The papers and the discussions at the symposium help to draw together the evidence to support the CURDS’ aim of developing a strategic analysis of these issues.
