This project investigated both the direct and indirect linkages between skills and productivity from theoretical, policy and delivery perspectives. The project was based on desk-research using existing literature and secondary data. A literature review considered how skills directly increase productivity both at individual and at macro level; the indirect linkages between skills and productivity and within the ‘five drivers framework’ assessed how skills, enterprise and innovation interact to deliver improved economic performance. It also analysed data relating to the East Midlands (vis-à-vis other regions and a national comparator) to support and illustrate findings from the literature review.
