UK wind and marine industry employment: opportunities and challenges 2010-2020

The development of wind and marine technologies will be vital in meeting the UK's contribution to the EU-wide renewable energy target, and will play a central role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the security of UK energy supplies. Following the global economic recession in 2009, the expansion of renewable technology industries also represents a major opportunity to revive economic growth.

The intention of this study is to develop the evidence base supporting the potential employment opportunities which might arise as a result of growth in wind and marine technology industries. The research will identify the potential for UK employment opportunities in UK wind and marine technology industries and identify potential skills gaps that could impede the rate of development of these industries.

The research was undertaken by Cambridge Economics and IER.
