Alan Norrie to give keynote at ANZSOC 2014 Conference

Alan Norrie will present a keynote speech on ‘Criminal Justice and the Blaming Relation’ at the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC) Conference in Sydney, Australia from 1-3 October 2014.

Professor Norrie's address will expand upon his longterm research in criminal law and social theory as well as the development of a new project that will move from the standard legal form of criminal justice (“blaming relation”) to criminal justice's connection with social injustice, the problems of justice when societies perpetrate genocide, the nature of the preventive turn in recent criminal justice, and issues concerning law, transitional and restorative justice.

The annual ANZSOC conference is an international event that brings together members and non-members for an invaluable opportunity to share research and information; to showcase products and services; and to create and strengthen partnerships.

The conference will highlight cutting-edge criminological research being conducted in Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. It will also provide a unique forum where researchers can meet with representatives from government, non-governmental organisations, and industry.

The theme of the 2014 Conference is Testing the Edges; Challenging Criminology. The program will include a wide range of plenary sessions, interactive workshops, presentations and seminars, shaped to enhance and inform around this theme.
