Warwick Law and Politics Taster Day

As part of its programme of Widening Participation events, the Law School held a Taster Day along with the Department of Politics and International Studies on Wednesday 3rd December for Year 12 students from West Coventry Sixth Form (composed of Woodlands Academy, Tile Hill Wood Girls’ School and Language College and Westwood Academy), Coventry Blue Coat School and Banbury Academy. The day served to introduce the study of law and politics at Warwick University and provide a taste of campus life, seminars and lectures.

The visiting students took part in academic sessions on ‘The law as necessary infrastructure for a free market’ and 'From Child to Child Soldier and from Child Soldier to Child’ as well as a university application workshop and campus tour.

Feedback from the visiting staff and students showed that they found the day extremely informative and enjoyable, particularly in terms of increasing aspirations and providing an awareness of what undergraduate study consists of.

Students from the day said:-

I hadn’t thought about how broadly law can be applied and how many fields it is linked to which has made it more appealing to me."

I’m more confident in wanting to study law."

I had started to lose interest in law recently because I had misunderstood what the real content is so this day hasn’t only raised my awareness about law, but my interest also."

A staff member also commented,

A lot of pupils now believe that Warwick is more accessible.
