‘Unravelling the Kashmir Knot’

Dr Hingorani will give a brief introduction to the book followed by an interactive session of questions and answers. Refreshments will be served after the event.

Kashmir has been characterized as a nuclear flashpoint on the Indian subcontinent, having the potential to disrupt international peace and stability. India and Pakistan have, in the past, gone to war over the state. The Kashmir problem has dictated political developments in the rest of the Indian subcontinent, with wide repercussions throughout the world. Indeed, the festering Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan has contributed immensely to the rise in international terrorism.

Dr. Aman Hingorani's new book relies primarily on British archives to show that the Kashmir issue was the end product of Britain’s ruthless colonial policies to satisfy its geo-political, defence and strategic interests in the Indian subcontinent. It goes on to document that the Kashmir problem assumed its current dimensions not only by India’s habitual bungling and the inadequacies of solutions often proposed to resolve it but also by the political expediency of the international community as well as Pakistan’s sustained efforts to keep the issue alive.

Aman M. Hingorani practises law in the Supreme Court of India and is mediator in the Supreme Court and the High Court of Delhi.
