RESEARCH PROFILEDr Ming-Sung Kuo joined Warwick Law School in 2010. His research interests are in the fields of constitutional and legal theory, comparative constitutional law (including USA, Europe, and East Asia), administrative law and regulatory theory, and public international law. His recent scholarship has been focused on the issues of legitimacy in relation to the rise of transnational legal orders and the changing relationship between normalcy and exception in the tendency toward what he terms constitutional presentism in contemporary constitutional developments. He has also written on global constitutionalism and global administrative law (with emphasis on transnational governance and postnational legality), European constitutionalism and integration, and the role of judicial review and its bootstrapping in the context of Taiwan's democratic transition. Dr Kuo's publications have appeared in the leading law journals in his fields, including Modern Law Review, International Journal of Constitutional Law, European Journal of International Law, Ratio Juris, and Oxford Journal of Legal Studies. BACKGROUNDDr Ming-Sung Kuo holds a JSD and an LLM from Yale University in the United States and receives his primary legal education in Taiwan where he earned his LLB and first LLM from National Taiwan University. Before continuing to pursue his doctoral studies, he served as a law clerk to Justice Dr. Tze-chien Wang at Taiwan's Constitutional Court. After passing the general examination for his PhD in Law candidacy at National Taiwan University, he studied at Yale Law School under a Taiwan government scholarship. Following the completion of his doctoral dissertation at Yale, he held postdoctoral research positions in the United States and Europe, including a Max Weber Fellowship at European University Institute in Florence, Italy and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. |
