    RESEARCH PROFILE

Main research areas are European Union law, employment law, sociology of law, social theory and comparative law. Professor Rogowski is currently conducting research on governance of employment and social policies in the European Union. He has a special interest in applying social systems theory to the study of law and industrial relations. He is the author of the concepts of reflexive labour law (with T. Wilthagen) and autopoietic industrial relations, which he applied in comparative empirical studies of labour market regulations in the European Union, in particular employment protection and fixed-term contracts. Professor Rogowski has a longstanding interest in studying the judiciary, the legal profession and legal advice. He has carried out empirical research on the impact and implementation of decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) in Germany (with Th. Gawron). He has conducted comparative studies of German labour courts and British employment tribunals as well as on German corporate lawyers. He is currently engaged in a research project on legal advice as a means of mobilising citizens against corruption.
