Applying the Housing Health and Safety Rating System - (HHSRS)

A two day course for experienced housing professionals to enable them to understand and use HHSRS with consistency and precision in their professional life.  There will be a gap of at least two weeks between day one and day two of the course to enable delegates to apply the principles of HHSRS in their professional life before returning to the course to review their results and focus on consistency of application.

Introduction

The Housing Act 2004 introduces the HHSRS which will conpletely change the way local authorities assess housing conditions.  All housing staff will need to be able to apply it in their everyday practice.  Consistency in the scoring of HHSRS is vital to its successful use.

Content

This course follows best training practice by developing the delegates learning and understanding in three stages:

  • Understanding the principles of HHSRS and how to apply them in practice.  On day one of the course, delegates will be given both group and individual practical exercises to develop their understanding;

  • Applying those principles in the delegate's own work environment.  At the end of day one, delegates will be given a task sheet to be used in their own property evaluations.  These must be completed before day two of the course;

  • Using HHSRS with consistency and precision.  On day two of the course, delegates will reinforce their ability to understand and apply the principles by reviewing their task sheets under the expert guidance of the tutors.  Further and more detailed case studies will be used to deepen the delegates' understanding of HHSRS.

This course is offered by Warwick Legal Training in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
