Seminar:

"Politics in drag: estrangement and knowledge production in IR"

10-12pm, Friday 28 April, H3.56

This session aims to host a conversation on alternative forms of knowledge production and research dissemination in the study of politics and international relations. Reflecting on my performance piece, “Politics in Drag: Sipping Toffee with Hamas in Brussels,” and drawing on other examples of political drag (L. M. Bogad and J. E. Muñoz) this conversation enquires how these acts work to destabilise the normalised reproduction of politics. Drag as a practice might allow for an estrangement to dominant forms of knowledge by occupying familiar rituals around gender and politics and interjecting with foreclosed alternatives, expressed through melancholia or parody. This session invites participants to reflect and discuss on the possibilities and obstacles of these performative practices to re-order political trajectories.

All are welcome!

Please RSVP to Erzsebet Strausz (e.strausz@warwick.ac.uk) so that we have an idea of numbers
