    George Christou studied for his first degree in Economics and Public Policy at Leeds Metropolitan University. He went on to complete his Masters degree in International Studies, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and a PhD in Political Science, all at the University of Sheffield. George joined the Department in August 2005.

    He has previously worked at the University of Manchester as a Lecturer in European Politics (2001-2003). He was a Research Associate at Manchester Metropolitan University on the ESRC project 'European Regulation of Internet Commerce' (2003-2004), resulting, amongst other outputs, in the presentation of findings to a symposium of EU and Member State policy-makers (Oct 2004) and the publication of a research monograph, 'The New Electronic Market Place: European Governance Strategies in a Globalising Economy' (Edward Elgar, 2007). George also spent time as a Research Associate at the Centre for Public Policy, Northumbria University, undertaking various 'Governance' related projects (2004-2005), including a study 'E-Channels Service Delivery Take-up' for the Department of Work and Pensions, findings of which were delivered in the form of 'Policy Report' and oral presentation to DWP policy makers in February 2005.

    He is currently working as part of a Warwick team (led by Prof. Stuart Croft) on a three year EU funded FP7 project on the European Union as a Global-Regional Actor in Peace and Security (EU-GRASP) (ENDS January 2012). http://www.eugrasp.eu/

    He began work on the EU funded FP7 project Global Re-ordering: Evolution through European Networks (GR: EEN) project in October 2011, directed by Prof Shaun Breslin. http://www.greenfp7.eu 

    Research interests

    George's main research interests include: the EU's role in conflict resolution, with specific interest in Cyprus and Turkey; European Neighbourhood Policy, how it has been constructed and how it has been received; The EU as an actor in Internet Governance and the political economy of European and Global Internet Governance; EU Cyber Security Policy.

    Teaching and supervision

    George currently teaches on the 3rd-year undergraduate module Political, legal and economic problems of European integration and on the postgraduate module European Integration.

    George is available to undertake PhD supervision in any areas that interconnect with his own research interests. The following are of particular interest: (1) The EU's role in conflict transformation in Cyprus and the European neighbourhood (2) The European Neighbourhood Policy, governance transformation and EU bordering impact (3) Turkey and the European Union (4) The EU as an international actor in Internet Governance (5) The Political Economy of EU/European and Global Internet Governance (6) All aspects of EU cyber security policy.
