    World Politics (PO131)

    Once again I am delighted to be teaching this first year undergraduate module in the forthcoming academic year. If you have any questions in advance of starting the module please email me at: j dot a dot malcolm at warwick dot ac dot uk.

    Aims:

    The module aims to:

    • Provide students with an introductory overview of politics at the international level.

    • Introduce students to the concepts, issues and structure of the international political system, along with its complexity and continuing evolution.

    • Locate the theoretical debates on the nature of the international political system within contemporary world politics.

    • Locate contemporary concepts and issues of global politics within the international historical narrative.

    Objectives:

    The learning objectives of this module are:

    • To be familiar with the structure of the international political system and the theoretical debates surrounding the structure and nature of international relations.

    • To have an understanding of the history of post-1945 international politics.

    • To have an awareness of the concepts in contemporary world politics.

    • To be familiar with a range of contemporary literature on world politics.

    • To be able to critically analyse ideas, both orally and in writing, with relation to world politics.

    • To develop IT and research skills through the use of the Library, internet and email based research skills.

    • To develop the ability to work both as part of a group and independently.
