PAIS & Modern Languages Course Director 2023-24

I joined PAIS in September 2019. Before that, I was a Lecturer in Political Theory in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. I have held visiting positions at the University of Graz, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Princeton University.

Research

My research interests are in contemporary political philosophy, specifically normative questions that fall at the intersection of philosophy, politics, and economics. I am currently writing a book on The Future of Work: Labour Markets, Technology, and Social Justice (under contract with Oxford University Press) that explores how labour market policymakers should respond to the threats and opportunities associated with technological change.

My first book, Introducing Political Philosophy: A Policy-Driven ApproachLink opens in a new window, was published with Oxford University Press in 2021.

You can find more information about my research and publications at https://tomparrsite.wordpress.com/.

I am Editor-in-Chief of Law, Ethics and PhilosophyLink opens in a new window.

Teaching

During the 2023-24 academic year, I will be the Course Director for the MA in Political and Legal Theory (Term 1) and for our Double Degrees, as well as Course Director for PO3A6 The Future of Work and Course Co-Director for PO9A4 Normative Analysis (Term 1). Additionally, I will deliver some lectures for PO301 Issues in Political Theory.

My Advice and Feedback Hours are on Thursdays, 13.00-15.00, and they take place on MS Teams. During these hours, students should please feel free to attend my office to discuss material relating to any of the courses that I teach. There is no need to book.

I am interested in supervising doctoral theses in contemporary political philosophy, and in particular those relating to matters of economic justice.
