Associate Professor of Political Theory I read PPE at the University of Oxford and studied for a DPhil in political theory at Nuffield College, Oxford. I joined PAIS in 2002, having taught in the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and in the Department of Government at Brunel University. The questions that preoccupy me in both teaching and research involve normative issues related to the content and distribution of political concern. I work on distributive justice, the foundations of liberal political thought, and also certain kinds of applied philosophy, such as the philosophy of education. My recent work includes Justice and Legitimacy in Upbringing (Oxford University Press, 2006) and two co-edited books on justice: The Ideal of Equality (Palgrave, 2002), and Social Justice (Blackwell, 2004).
