School of Health and Social Studies
|
Our overarching objective is to deliver cutting-edge teaching and research at the interface of health, nursing, social work and social care, ethnicity and migration. We share an approach to teaching and research which pays attention to the relationship between major social divisions in society and how these impact on health, wellbeing and social care. The School’s ethos emphasises:
Service users, carers and patientsUser, carer and patient involvement is an integral aspect of research and teaching, and is facilitated through the University - User Teaching and Research Action Partnership (UNTRAP), based in the Institute of Health. This was set up to develop user and carer involvement in teaching and research in health and social care at the University of Warwick, within SHSS and Warwick Medical School, and at the University of Coventry, and has been recognised as leading edge. |
TeachingWe aim to recruit high calibre students and to provide them with an excellent environment for learning and development, to enable them to develop a critical, informed and self motivated approach to professional learning and policy development. In a changing educational and professional environment, the School's teaching and learning is based on rigorous scholarship and research activity, delivered through innovative teaching methods. Teaching is undertaken by research active academic staff, pedagogically minded teaching fellows, and practitioners. The combination of research-led teaching activity, sound pedagogy, and practitioner and service user involvement reinforces the credibility of teaching. |
