Ronit Lentin

Dr Ronit Lentin is director of the MPhil in Ethnic and Racial Studies, Department of Sociology, Trinity College Dublin. Her research interests include gender and genocide / violence, racism and Israeli-Palestinian women’s peace and dialogue activism.

Her books include Conversations with Palestinian Women (1982) and Israel and the Daughters of the Shoah: Reoccupying the Territories of Silence (2000). Ronit is the editor of Gender and Catastrophe (1997), and co-editor, with Anne Byrne, of (Re)searching Women: Feminist Research Methodologies in the Social Sciences in Ireland (2000), with Robbie McVeigh, of Racism and Anti-racism in Ireland (2002), with Nahla Abdo, of Women and the Politics of Military Confrontation: Palestinian and Israeli Gendered Narratives of Dislocation (2002), and with Eithne Luibhéid, of Women’s Movement: Migrant Women Transforming Ireland (2003). Her next edited collection is Representing the Shoah for the 21st Century (2004). Ronit was Europe and Middle East editor of Women’s Studies International Forum, 1997-2003, and has published extensively on gender and genocide, gender, migration and diaspora, racism and immigration in Ireland, Israel and the Shoah, Israeli and Palestinian women’s peace activism. She is currently using theoretical perspectives on the ‘racial state’ (Goldberg, 2002) and on ‘the state of exception’ (Agamben, 1995, 1998) to research (a) the testimonies of women survivors of Transnistria, (b) Ireland as a racial state, (c) the Israeli racial state and its subversive daughters, and (d) the gendering of the Dublin city space from the viewpoint of migrant women.
