BASAS Student Paper Prize

Since 2000, the British Association of South Asian Studies (BASAS) has awarded a prize for the most outstanding paper given by a student at its annual conference. The paper may be on any subject relevant to the conference. The Prize consists of a monetary award of £250. Depending on the topic of the paper, prize-winning papers will be considered for publication (subject to review) in the annual BASAS conference issue of Contemporary South Asia or in South Asian Studies.

To enter for the BASAS prize:

  • You must be studying for a degree in an institution of higher learning at the time of the BASAS annual conference.
  • Your paper must have been accepted by the conference, you must present it in person, and you must not have presented it elsewhere or published it previously.
  • You must submit an electronic copy of your paper to 2010.conference@warwick.ac.uk by extended to Friday 19 March 2010, 5pm (GMT).
  • Your paper must not exceed 6,000 words (including bibliography and footnotes). Papers longer than this word limit will be automatically disqualified.

The judging panel will consist of the conference conveners and a member of the BASAS Council.

The judging panel reserves the right not to present the award and will not enter into correspondence concerning its final judgment.

Details about past winners can be found here.
