Director of MA/MSc Programmes - Dr Carol Wolkowitz (Terms 2 and 3 2012)
Dr Carol Wolkowitz (BA, Smith College); D.Phil. Sussex University) undertook her postgraduate research on gender and development issues. She conducted doctoral research on the careers of women politicians in South India and co-edited Of Marriage and the Market: Women's Subordination in International Perspectives (1984). Since then her research and teaching have foucsed on gender in relation to work, embodiment and representation. Dr Carol Wolkowitz supervises doctoral students ona wide range of topics, for instance midwifery, social class and gender in UK graduate careers in Turkish banking.

Director of Graduate Studies - Professor Deborah Lynn Steinberg
Deborah Lynn Steinberg is a Professor of Media, Culture and Gender Studies in the Department of Sociology. Her research and interests revolve around three key areas: Cultures of Science (gene cultures, science in representation, science fiction); Media and Cultural Studies (film and television studies, media methodology, mourning and politics) and Gender and Sexuality. Deborah has supervised a great many PhD students (most of whom have held ESRC and Warwick scholarships) across a range of topics including: feminist media and cultural studies, public mourning, popular music cultures, war, violence and conflict, science fiction, reproductive politics and rights, science and helath cultures, sexual identities, the politics of 'trans'; new media and on-line cultures, popular press, men's magazines, the feminist Zine movement, sexualities in education, queer studies and masculinities.
