MA/MSc/Diploma Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

To obtain an offer to initially register on one of our MA Programmes, applicants should have obtained at least second class honours in a first degree (a 2:1) or it's overseas equivalent (eg a GPA of at least 3.3 on a scale out of 4), from an approved institution in Arts or Social Sciences, or equivalent professional experience. Other suitably qualified individuals will be considered.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum academic requirements for direct entry MA may be offered Diploma entry onto the programme they applied for. Students registered for a Diploma and those registered for an MA do exactly the same work in the autumn and spring terms. If a Diploma student achieves a pass mark in all their assessed work in these first two terms, they will normally be invited to proceed to Part II of the programme, i.e. to complete a dissertation in the summer term. If they successfully complete the dissertation, they are then awarded the MA. Students who are accepted for the MA programme but are unable to complete it successfully can be considered for the Diploma if they pass all their modules.

Students for whom English is not a first language are required to have gained an IELTS score of at least 6.5.

Please read the information about how to apply and supporting documentation before you apply to ensure your application has the best chance of success.
