Social Theory Centre

The Social Theory Centre, founded in 1997, is devoted to the promotion and development of social theory in the broad sense of the term, though with particular emphasis on social theory’s capacity to both respond to and shape contemporary social and political life. While based in the department of sociology, its interests range across a number of social science and humanities disciplines. Its current director is Dr Gurminder K Bhambra.

The primary activities of the Centre consist of organising research symposia and workshops. We also hold a regular reading group and this term will be reading various texts on neo-liberalism. For details of the reading group, see here. All welcome.

The Social Theory Centre provides an important locus of activity for faculty and students involved with the MA programme in Social and Political Thought.
