Hilary Pilkington convenes and teaches the first year core module Researching Society and Culture and co-convenes and teaches (with Phil Mizen) a third year module ‘Youth and Society’. She also co-convenes with Anton Popov MA Qualitative Methods.
Her current research focuses on youth and youth culture, especially in Eastern Europe. She has a long standing research interest in contemporary Russian society especially drug use, migration and displacement, ethnic and national identity including Muslim identity and the rise of xenophobic sentiments. The findings of this research have been published in a number of monographs and edited books as well as journals such as International Journal of Drug Policy, Russian Review, European Journal of Cultural Studies and Europaea. She works actively with NGO and government bodies to bring the findings of her research into the public domain and to the attention of policy-makers.
