Printing from a personal laptop using iPrint
|
The method below is tested on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Apple Mac users with OS X 10.4 and above should see here First, connect to the wireless network and log in to the wireless network log in page. Alternatively, you can connect to the Warwick VPN Novell iPrint client and printer installation Now we can add a printer using Novell iPrint. The method for Windows 7 follows - Vista is very similar - Windows XP users can skip step (i) (i) Add http://print.wbs.ac.uk/ipp When you go to the site, you'll see a Protected Mode banner in the bottom right hand corner of the browser window - double click this banner to change security settings.
Now you need to select the "Trusted sites" page and click "Sites" This will open a new dialogue where you need to untick the checkbox shown, and then "Add" the site that you are on (after verifying that it's the right site)
(ii) Install the iPrint client - it can be downloaded from the page you are already on - again save it to your computer and launch it, or click "Run" to download to a temporary folder and fire it up.
Follow the prompts to install the client, and then restart your browser as requested - go back to http://iprint.wbs.ac.uk (iii) Install the printer - this should be the easy bit - locate the printer you want to install (it might help to click the option to show only student printers if you're a student), eg. iprint-pg-2060a (you'll notice that the location is noted next to the printer on this page), and click the link on the left to install it. This will open a dialogue asking if you want to install the printer - again I'm guessing that the answer here is Yes!
You'll now be asked to authenticate to the printer. Here you should use your WBS username and password - the one that is in the format course:year:initials, eg. msf09ba or ism08st.
Congratulations - if you've gotten this far, you should now have a business school networked printer installed on your laptop. You can find it in Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes (XP / Vista) or Devices and Printers (Windows 7) - it will be available to print to whenever you're connected to the wireless service, or the Warwick VPN. Please contact us using http://help.wbs.ac.uk/call for any issues with the above procedure. Issues with the wireless hotspot service, or the Warwick VPN, should be directed to central IT Services - http://go.warwick.ac.uk/its |
