One of the most confusing aspects of starting to use the information systems at WBS can be the issue of email addresses. This page will hopefully answer your questions.

As a member of Warwick Business School (WBS) you are also a member of the wider University of Warwick (UoW). Both of these institutions provide you with an email address.

Your University of Warwick email is something like j.doe@warwick.ac.uk . For WBS students however any email sent here is automatically redirected to your WBS-provided email account. Hence you will never have to log in to your UoW email account and do not need to worry about it at all.

Your Warwick Business School email account will be something like DL10XX@mail.wbs.ac.uk, where the DL10XX is your WBS username. This username is made up of the first two characters that represent your course (Distance Learning MBA in this example) plus the year you started (2010 in this case), plus your initials (XX in this example). This is the username you need to use when logging into your email:

This DL10XX@mail.wbs.ac.uk email address works and can never be changed. We don't think it looks very friendly however so we also provide you with a 'friendly' address that can be changed. Your friendly address will be something like jane.doe.10@mail.wbs.ac.uk . Importantly though, anything sent to either address will get delivered to your one WBS email account.

Why do WBS provide an email account when we already get a university of warwick account?

Most departments at the University of Warwick do not provide additional email accounts for their students. At WBS however we understand that Business School students have particular needs and so we provide an additional account for the following reasons:

• The central University of Warwick email account is closed shortly after you graduate. At WBS we understand that one of the benefits of attending WBS is the opportunity to create networks that will support your career in the future. The closure of your email account makes that more difficult. Hence WBS provides you with an email account that continues indefinitely (well, at least as long as Google survives).
• As well as email, the WBS account gives you access to a host of other services such as Google Docs. Having used a range of systems we are convinced that Google Apps is the most innovative and supportive of collaboration. We therefore wish to make this service available to WBS students.

Why do i have two Google mail email addresses?

Each Google account must have one address that cannot be changed. Additional to this, an account can have a number of additional addresses (called Nicknames) that point to the same account. We have chosen to use your username as the address that cannot be changed and to provide an extra 'friendly' address that is based on your name.

In this way we can easily change this additional address without losing your old emails should you change name (e.g. marriage, divorce, gender change etc) or if there is some spelling error or similar in the original address.
