Creating online questionnaires - Frequently Asked Questions

February 2011: WBS now has an unlimited site licence for the advanced surveying software, Qualtrics. See http://help.wbs.ac.uk/qualtrics .

Introduction

Our recommended way of creating online questionnaire is using the ‘Formsbuilder’ tool developed by IT Services. This allows you to quickly put together an online questionnaire and to gather the data in a standard .csv format (comma separated value) that can be read by Excel or practically any other analysis software. Please note this service is only available to staff and PhD researchers. For surveying options for students please see here.

Where will my site be?

Sites are generally created under the ‘Projects’ page of the WBS section of the Warwick site. This can be seen at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/wbs/projects/ opens in a new window

Does my site have to appear in the left menu?

No. The sites that appear in the left hand menu of the ‘Projects’ page have chosen to be visible.

How do I obtain training on Formsbuilder?

Fortunately using Formsbuilder is simple. There is also lots of online training and more information at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/its/servicessupport/web/sitebuilder2/faqs/formsbuilderfaqs/

What limitations does Formsbuilder have?

Formsbuilder has a similar level of security to email. It is *not* suitable for sensitive information such as credit card details or medical questionnaires.

How can I get started?

If you want to create your own questionnaire please start by emailing help@wbs.ac.uk with the following information:

  • What title would you like for your questionnaire
  • Would you like the questionnaire site to be visible to everyone on the ‘Projects’ page or would you like it hidden

Please note that 12 months after the creation of an online questionnaire the page could be deleted without notice.
