Accounting Group Undergraduate Programmes

Course introduction

The BSc in Accounting and Finance is our most professionally-oriented undergraduate course. If you are interested in dealing with financial information in a business or professional context, then this may be the WBS undergraduate course for you. Our three-year course will give you a sound grounding in the major fields of accounting and finance, including:

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting
    Management Accounting
    Financial Management and Decision-making

This degree is the ideal qualification if you want to join an accountancy firm or want a career in any area of finance. WBS delivers a programme relevant to the accountants of today and of the future. Our close and numerous links with the accounting profession and corporate body ensures that our Accounting and Finance degree always has currency.

The quality of the WBS BSc in Accounting and Finance is widely recognised, being ranked in first place by both The Times Good University Guide 2011 and The Complete University Guide 2011. The Guardian University Guide 2011, which does not separate out accounting and finance, ranks Warwick in first place for Business and Management.

Structure & core modules

When you arrive at WBS, you will participate in a two-week induction programme. This will introduce you to:

  • Other aspects of University of Warwick life.

 

Your first year will involve the following modules:-

Your second year will involve the following core modules:

Autumn Term:

IB223 Accounting in Context

IB233 Financial Reporting 1

IB235 Finance 1: Financial Markets

IB242 Foundations of Information Systems

IB249 Global Environment of Business

Spring Term:

EC229 Economics of Strategy

IB232 Issues in Management Accounting

IB234 Financial Reporting 2

IB236 Finance 2: Corporate Finance 

IB250 Global Integrative Project

These core modules make a total of 120 CATS, which is a full load for the year. However there is some flexibility to take an optional module and defer one or more modules to the final year.


Your third year will involve taking the IB3810: Critical Issues in Management module, and at least four of the following modules:-

In addition to the core modules, you will have the option of choosing a number or electives from WBS and other departments. The links below illustrate the range of modules running in 2010-2011. The modules on offer are subject to change and may be restricted by modules taken earlier in the course or by other specific course requirements.

higher level mathematics

Across your Higher or A level qualifications we will be looking for a range of subjects including mathematics and a humanities or social science subject. General Studies and Critical Thinking are excluded. You must also show evidence of subject continuity from Year 11 to Higher or A level study.

If your academic qualifications meet our admission requirements, but your English language qualifications are not accepted as equivalent to GCSE or International Baccalaureate English, you may be offered a place conditional on an acceptable qualification being achieved before you join us. If your first language is not English: IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each element TOEFL 620 paper-based with +5 in written English TOEFL 105 internet-based with no less than 23 in any band
