    Research

The research programme at WIE is supported by a comprehensive research training, series of research seminars and support for publishing and networking.

    • WIEGA, the Graduate Researcher Association, provide us with support to make this doctorate experience an exciting one.
    • Foundation Research Methods - Here you will find David Wray's guide.
    • Advanced Research Methods - At WIE, doctoral researchers are offered a broad research training. Full and part time doctoral researchers attend 10 full-day sessions on Saturdays from January until June. They benefit from a wide range of research methodologies that can be applied in research projects.
    • Action research- If your project involves action research try the leading classroom based enquiry site, this site is also relevant for research design (Leading Education Enquiry 1 and Leading Education Enquiry 2)
    • In the research seminars both staff and doctoral researchers benefit from attending sessions conducted by guest speakers from institutions in the UK and abroad. These online resources are useful if you miss a session or would like to listen this again and consist of clips based on interviews with guest speakers.
    • You may refer to some web pages at WIE developed to support the process of being published.
    • Advice Books - for some practical advise on the research and writing process:
      1. Joan Bolker, Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day (Owl Books, 1998)
      2. John A. Finn, getting a PhD: an action plan to help you manage your research, your supervisor and your project (Routledge, 2005)
      3. Stephen Marshall and Nick Green, Your PhD Companion (How to Books, 2004)
