Thanks for visiting me here! I have stopped updating this ePortfolio after the completion of my doctoral study. To get in touch with my current research and portfolio, please visit: http://www.learnmatrix.net/
I was a full-time research student from Malaysia. I was doing research on game-based learning (GBL) between March 2008 and February 2011 in the Institute of Education, University of Warwick.
I began to research on GBL when I pursued my part-time Master degree in e-learning technologies. Many so-called e-learning courses are neither effective nor good learning experience. I believe that GBL could enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning, but the question is how such GBL could be produced for use in formal educational contexts? My research is based on case studies of collaborations between subject matter experts (SMEs) and game experts in the design and development of GBL. So the aim of my study here is to explain how can SMEs and games experts collaborate to design and develop GBL for formal educational contexts.
I was originally planning to do a PhD about Sun Tzu
’s The Art of War
and e-Learning Systems in Malaysia, but I decided to keep that for my future study since the chances to get sponsorship for this research is very slim. I spent more than a year to get research fund, fellowship or scholarship. Eventually, I got a fellowship to realise my aim, thanks to Sultan Idris University of Education
(UPSI) and the Malaysia Government
.
I passed the viva on 24 Jan 2011 (with minor correction though). This cannot be achieved without the immense support given by my supervisors, mentors, colleagues in WIE, Warwick Graduate School, ITS and UPSI, and more importantly my friends and peers around the world who participated in my doctoral research. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!
Having completed a PhD in game-based learning, I move on to research into learn-based gaming, specifically on the design of game coaching system for professional game playing. Also, I am attempting to study Ancient China ideologies and Western Philosophy--my life-long learning programme.
Fellowship (Public Institutions of Higher Learning Academic Training Scheme), awarded by UPSI and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.
