Scholarships and Funding Opportunities

There are many scholarships and funding opportunities available for Research Students.  We recommend that you ask the Research Team for advice when applying for any funding.  We can offer good advice and help you make the most of your application.  Summary of scholarships and eligibility

WIE has an ESRC studentship available  - deadline now 18th May 2010

WIE has an ESRC Quota (Nomination) Award for a doctoral student commencing study in 2010-2011. This is either a 1 + 3  ( Masters followed by PhD) or a  + 3 (PhD only) award where the applicant has already completed full research methods training modules at an ESRC reconginised institution.  You must hold an offer to study for a doctorate at WIE and be a home or EU student* Please complete the relevant application form available as pdf or word document. ESRC Studentship 1+ 3 (pdf) ESRC Studentship 1 + 3 (word), or ESRC studentship + 3 (pdf) ESRC Studentship + 3 (word) or contact the Research Office for further advice. Competition deadline is now 18th May 2010.  Although the final application is completed on-line through the ESRC, candidates are selected by WIE, hence earlier deadline than that given by ESRC.  Please complete the relevant form and return it to WIE Research Office ASAP electronically and in hard copy. * EU students will not be entitled to the full support grant unless they have been resident in UK for at least 3 years.
Warwick China Scholarships Council Awards competition now open.  Applicants for this award need to hold an unconditional offer by March 20th 2010.  Applications to the China Scholarship Council.
WIE is likely to provide a funding-council-equivalent scholarship (circa £16,680 this year) for a period of three years beginning in September 2010, for a suitable candidate for PhD.  The competition is likely to open later this year.  If you have entered ESRC or WPRS, and you wish to be considered for WIE scholarship as well, please let us know so we can use the same forms and documents.

Top Tips from the Graduate School when applying for funding
 
General Tips when applying for any scholarship or funding:
  • Remember that the selectors may not be education specialists so you will need to bear this in mind when describing your research proposal.
  • Emphasise your project's contribution to the field
  • If you have done a masters dissertation on the same project area, emphasise this
  • Make sure you include your grades on your first degree and Master's
  • Detail any scholarships you have held, any prizes you have won or any recognition you have received
  • Reference anything relevant that you have published
  • Explain WHY you wish to carry out this particular research
  • Ask advice from the Research Office if you are unsure
