Obtaining CRB - Advice for New Students
All students
During your course you are likely to visit schools. In the autumn term, we arrange group visits to local schools. These are open to international students and those home students who work outside the schools sector.
Later in the academic year you will carry out a research project. If you choose to carry out research based in a school you will need to obtain a full CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure. However, it is also possible to do research in other settings, such as universities, in which case a CRB disclosure is not necessary.
Please note that there will be a fee of £44 (as at July 2011) payable by you to obtain the full CRB disclosure.
UK students
Please ensure that you apply for local CRB clearance if there is any possibility that you may wish to undertake research connected with your course in a school or Further Education college where you are not currently employed. For details of how to do this, contact the University's CRB officer, Claire Cadman on crb@warwick.ac.uk who will advise you further on the CRB application process.
NB. If you have lived outside of the UK for a solid period of time of 6 months or more, you will also need a non UK Certificate of Good Conduct from the country (countries) you resided at.
International students
Because of the requirements for child protection, the University of Warwick, like all other UK universities, requires an official statement that you do not have a criminal record. You should obtain this now, in order to avoid delays.
You must obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct from your local police station or the Embassy of your country in the UK. The Certificate of Good Conduct should state that you are clear of criminal convictions and that you are not on the sex offenders register.
On arrival in the UK, during the induction programme at Warwick Institute of Education (details to be forwarded to you separately) there will be a CRB session when there will be an opportunity for you to complete a CRB form and pass on to us the Certificate of Good Conduct. The CRB Officer, Claire Cadman (crb@warwick.ac.uk) will be present at the session and will assist you further in obtaining a full CRB disclosure. To apply for a CRB disclosure you will need to bring to this session original documents and their photocopies as stated below on the checklist:
