    MA in Educational Assessment

Students complete four taught modules (30 CATs each) and a dissertation (60 CATs).
Modules are taught using a blended learning approach which combines elements of face-to-face teaching with independent study using web-based course materials.

Module 1 - Formative assessment and assessment for learning
Informed by theoretical and empirical research into formative educational assessment, students will develop the knowledge and critical understanding required to design, implement and evaluate formative assessment tasks and processes.

Module 2 - Summative assessment and assessment of learning
Informed by theoretical and empirical research into summative educational assessment, students will develop the knowledge and critical understanding required to design, implement and evaluate summative assessment tasks and processes.

Module 3 - Foundation research methods

Students will acquire a critical understanding of educational research methodology and methods. This will equip them to interpret and critique research in the domain of educational assessment and prepare them for the research they will undertake for their dissertation.

Module 4 - Issues in assessment

This module will equip students with the knowledge and critical understanding required to locate and articulate their current professional approach and practices in relation to diverse perspectives and contested debates in the field of educational assessment.

    Length of course
    1 year f/t or 2-3 years p/t

Please note that the course is designed primarily as apart time degree for educational practitioners who will be studying whilst working. However, in exceptional circumstances, individuals who wish to apply for the full time variant should note that this will only become available from 2011/ 2012.

    Entry requirements
Normally a second class honours degree plus 3 years’ professional experience involving educational assessment.

Teachers with QTS may be eligible for support with fees through the TDA Postgraduate Professional Development Fund.
