The Application Process

The purpose of this page is to provide you with more information about the application process for September 2012 entry.

Please note that the information about our teacher training courses is subject to confirmation of funding from the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA). This means that not all courses featured on our website may be available in 2012/13.

How to make an application

All applications for the PGCE courses should be made to: Graduate Teacher Training Registry at www.gttr.ac.uk Tel: 0870 1122205

We do not have a deadline for applications. However, some courses fill up quickly so please apply early to avoid disappointment. If you have a query regarding this please contact us on pgce@warwick.ac.uk or telephone our admissions office: 024 7652 8148.

Please note that if you are applying for Early Years or Primary courses, GTTR must receive your application by 1 December 2011 to guarantee that they can send it to your first choice training provider for consideration.

Selection criteria

  • Qualifications and academic ability - appropriateness of degree;
  • Personal Statement - please see Personal Statement;
  • Experience - at interview you will be expected to discuss work experience and knowledge of teaching as well as your interests;
  • Confidence and resilience;
  • Personality and enthusiasm - these are important characteristics to be considered during selection.

The Selection Process

After considering your application form we will invite you to a Selection Day during which you will be given a course overview and asked to take part in assessment exercises. If you are shortlisted to take part in the Selection Day you will also be asked to arrange a short visit to an early years setting, school or college and they will be asked to complete a short report about your time there.

The interview is an individual one with a specialist tutor and will normally involve a teacher from one of our partnership schools. As well as your academic background, we need to consider whether you have the personal qualities and experience necessary to work as a competent teacher. The interview also gives you the chance to look in more detail at our course and assess for yourself whether it is right one for you.
