    CRB

All PGCE trainees must hold a satisfactory CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) enhanced disclosure before the start of the PGCE course. Details of how to apply will be provided once you have been made an offer of a place on the course. If you are interviewed after Easter of the year of your application, you will have to apply for your CRB check on the day of your interview.

Please note – if you are made an offer following interview, your offer will be conditional on you gaining a satisfactory CRB enhanced disclosure before the start of the course. Failure to produce this will mean that you won't have met the conditions of your offer and therefore you will lose your place on the course.

Any person working with people under the age of 18 must be thoroughly checked to prevent unsuitable people from gaining access to children. The Disclosure includes a check on local police records, where additional information relevant to your course may be released by the Chief Officer for inclusion within the Enhanced Disclosure. The Government created the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) to provide a central service for undertaking police and identity checks.

If you have not been resident in the UK for a full 5 years, you will also need to provide evidence from the countries where you have lived. Please obtain a document from either the local police (state police, in USA), or your Embassy proving that you have no criminal convictions in that country, or giving information about any that you do have. Please note that this is in addition to the CRB check, but is required before full Disclosure clearance is valid and you will be unable to commence any school-based work connected with your course until this has been finalised.

Our advice to you is that you supply all the documents requested for interview and that if you are offered a place on one of our PGCE courses, you respond to any documentation you receive from either the University or CRB immediately that pertain to your CRB check - this will ensure that you do not cause any unnecessary delays that could lead to you being unable to meet the CRB condition of your offer.
